The federal government announced, this Tuesday (30), the adjustments to food assistance and health assistance for federal employees. The announcement, published in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU), comes amid the civil service strike in the area of education and on the eve of Labor Day, celebrated on May 1st.

The increase will come into effect this Wednesday (1st), but employees will only receive the adjusted amounts in their June salaries, retroactive to the month of May. The federal government explained that, as the agreement was signed last Thursday (25), next month’s payroll was already closed. As a result, it was not possible to include the recomposition.

The ordinances were signed by the Minister of Management and Innovation (MGI), Esther Dweck. For months she negotiated these changes with the categories of federal public servants. Now, the minister is trying to calm tensions with unions that represent employees at federal universities. Since April 3, technicians and teachers from 31 institutions have been on strike across the country.

How is the adjustment of food allowance for servers?

The monthly value of food assistance increases from R$658 to R$1,000, and must appear on the employees’ payroll from May 1st of this year. The adjustment represents a recovery of 51.9%.

Due to the retroactivity for the recomposition, in June all federal employees will receive R$ 1,342 in food assistance. From July onwards, R$1,000 will be paid.

What is the new value of health benefits for federal employees?

The ordinance that deals with health aid brought changes in the cost of supplementary health care to be paid to federal employees, military personnel from the Military Police and the Military Fire Department of the extinct federal territories of Amapá, Rondônia and Roraima.

The benefit also includes active or inactive employees, their dependents and pensioners. The value of the benefit, which is currently R$144.38, becomes R$215, depending on the salary range of the public servantO.

Negotiations with the federal government

Last year, the federal government granted a 9% linear salary increase on the payroll of all federal public servants and also granted a 43.6% increase in food allowance (which was R$458 and went to R$658).

This year, public employees also managed to get an adjustment in pre-school assistance, also called “daycare allowance”, which went from R$321 to R$484.90.
