Ministry of Health will incorporate new medicine for HIV patients

-

The Ministry of Health will incorporate a new medicine for patients living with HIV into the list of antiretrovirals available in the Unified Health System (SUS). The treatment will be an alternative for adults living with HIV or AIDS, but who are multi-resistant to other medications offered by the public system.

The new medicine is fostensavir trometamol (600mg). The National Commission for the Incorporation of Technologies into the Unified Health System (Conitec) approved the incorporation of the antiretroviral in March, but only now should a decree be published. After that, the medicine has up to 180 days to be available on the SUS.

The criteria for expanding the public covered by the new treatment model may be reviewed in six months, observing, for example, the growth trend in prescriptions and the availability of the medicine in stock in the network.

The last time a medicine for multidrug-resistant people was included in the SUS was eight years ago, when 200mg etravirine was incorporated.
