Tais Barbosa Assunção, 27, is the second fatal victim of dengue in Canoes. She was a resident of the Estância Velha neighborhood – the location with the highest number of cases in the municipality.

Death was confirmed by State Department of Health of Rio Grande do Sul last Wednesday (27).

The GBC report spoke to a family member of Taís. He highlighted that she was “hardworking, outgoing, polite and studious.” During the interview, he said he was no longer in a position to talk about her.

Seek medical attention
Taís reportedly sought medical attention after feeling body pain. She was admitted to a hospital in the region and did not survive after her health worsened.

She leaves behind a seven-year-old son.

What is dengue fever?
Dengue is a viral disease transmitted by the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, characterized by symptoms such as high fever, muscle and joint pain, headache, nausea, vomiting and skin rashes.

To prevent the disease, it is essential to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, such as containers that accumulate stagnant water, use repellents and screens on doors and windows, and avoid the accumulation of water in uncovered containers.
