Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), denied a request made by Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) defense to archive the investigation into the alleged scheme to defraud vaccination data against Covid-19. Last week, the Federal Police (PF) indicted former President Bolsonaro, Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid (former aide-de-camp of the Presidency) and 15 other people for the crimes of criminal association and insertion of false data in the investigation of the case. Among the fraudulent cards would be those of Bolsonaro and the former president’s youngest daughter, Laura.
The former president’s defense filed the request for archiving in the early afternoon of this Monday (25), claiming that there were doubts about Mauro Cid’s accusation, in addition to maintaining the lack of elements to investigate an alleged criminal association.
“It is impossible for the investigator to intend to guide the investigative activity. (…) As investigations progressed, the Federal Police identified the formation of a criminal association to achieve a common purpose, namely, the practice of crimes of inserting false vaccination data against Covid-19 into SI systems -PNI and RNDS of the Ministry of Health. On 3/19/2024, the police authority presented an investigation report (Report No. 1093118/2024) and the files were forwarded to the Attorney General’s Office for comment. The present investigation, therefore, is in regular progress, so archiving would be absolutely premature”, wrote Moraes, in a decision taken on the same day.
The PF is investigating the action of a criminal association that allegedly made false records of doses against Covid-19 in the Ministry of Health system for several people. As pointed out by the corporation, the lieutenant colonel would have initiated the scheme to forge a physical vaccination certificate for Covid-19 for his wife.
However, the investigation highlighted that the criminal structure was consolidated over time, gaining the “adhesion of other people, acting in a stable and permanent manner to “insert false vaccination data against Covid-19 for the benefit of the then President of the Republic Jair Messias Bolsonaro”, his daughter and others.
