A touching detail also serves as a good calling card: Superman is wearing his infamous red underwear over his pants. It is a break with the way the character has been treated in cinema in recent years.

In the wave of dark and realistic DC films, inspired above all by the success of Christopher Nolan’s sad Batman trilogy, the Kent son had abandoned his swim trunks – an iconic image of the Golden Age of North American comics.

Anti-visionary Zack Snyder’s films tried to bring the hero closer to a sci-fi approach. So much so that Man of Steel (2013), his only solo film during this period, treated Superman more like an alien than anything else.

But now underwear is on top again! The image’s apparently more fun atmosphere seems to point to a promising future for Superman on the big screen – and for DC as a whole. The director’s track record points to this path.

Is a simple image too little to draw so many hasty conclusions? Logically. Looking at the photo again, you can’t even say for sure if it’s really a swim trunks. But stay tuned for more speculation until July next year.
