Alejandra Rodríguez, model and lawyer, became Miss champion of the province of Buenos Aires last Sunday (21). At 60 years old, the model has been breaking barriers in a competition known for seeking only youthfulness and aesthetic standards of beauty, and now she shows that she goes much further than that: she has a great chance of competing in the international edition of Miss Universe and representing Argentina.
The competition, which brings together 28 candidates from across the country, will be held on May 25th, in Buenos Aires. The lawyer lives and works in the city of La Plata, where the incident occurred. participation in the regional competition, and for the first time, the competition took place with no age limit. “It was a very thoughtful decision, but thanks to the director of Miss Universe Buenos Aires, I decided to register at 60 years old”, she told the TN channel this Tuesday (23). “I had never applied. Now this opportunity arose and it seemed like a challenge, a very interesting proposal.”
Held annually since 1952, Miss Universe has become one of the most famous beauty pageants in the world. However, over many years, the competition valued standard women’s bodies, in addition to promoting stereotypes of female beauty. “Beauty is not just about the physical, it has to do with the attitude towards life, which goes beyond aesthetics. Therefore, I think the contest came to break these stereotypes, and that is what is giving it so much visibility” , revealed Alejandra.
In another interview, on TV El Trece’s Arriba Argentinos program, she explained how she stays in shape at age 60. “The basics are to have a healthy life, eat well, do physical activity… Normal care. Nothing too extraordinary. And a little genetics”he said. “We are inaugurating a new stage in which women are not just about physical beauty, but about another set of values.”
