The character who died was Larry, one of Moe’s Bar’s most loyal customers. He was constantly seen sitting next to other regulars – such as Homer Simpson himself and his friends Barney, Lenny, Carl and Sam.

Larry’s lines were rare throughout the cartoon, with the episode about his death focusing exactly on his personal life.

Homer and his friends go to Larry’s mother’s house to commiserate over her loss and end up hearing that he considered them his best friends. They then go on a road trip to dispose of his ashes.

“I just found out about Larry’s death, I need to recover,” wrote one person on X, formerly Twitter. “I can’t believe they did this,” lamented another. “Rest in peace Larry,” someone else shared.
