The Simpsons is full of remarkable characters, but even with thirty-five seasons of the show, some of them still manage to go unnoticed until the moment of their death. This is the case of Larry Dalrymple, a drinking companion who was always at Moe’s Bar and finally came to prominence when he died.

In the fifteenth episode of the thirty-fifth season, viewers got to know more about Larry, a regular at Moe’s Bar, who dies at the beginning of the episode. Honoring their companion, Homer and Moe set off on a journey to scatter his ashes, but their own friendship is shaken along the way.

The curious thing is that he is a character who has always been present within the series, although almost invisibly. He was one of the drunks who appeared at Moe’s Bar, always appearing in the background of the scene or, at most, interacting occasionally here and there. And, precisely because of his discreet profile, his death took so many people by surprise.

A farewell to an always silent friend

The episode begins with the drinkers discovering that Larry died in the bar, but they don’t know exactly how. And that’s where The Simpsons has the excellent idea of showing that, just like the audience, the characters themselves never paid much attention to the deceased. They discover that they don’t know their partner that much, even though he is always present at the bar.

Moe, Homer, Lenny and Carl go together to Serenity Falls to repeat a trip they once took together and scatter Larry’s ashes there. Along the way, they get into fights and even encounter mobster Tony, who almost ends up making four more corpses along the way.

In the end, they end up returning with the urn to Moe’s Bar, sharing a beer once again.

Larry’s death ended up surprising and moving many fans because in the episode, the drunkard’s mother reveals that he always saw the other four drunks as his best friends, even though he was always silent in the bar.

Larry Dalrymple’s first appearance took place in the first episode of The Simpsons, The Christmas Prize, aired in December 1989. Thirty-five years later, and speaking in just two episodes, Larry had his highlight moment in his big farewell. And all we found out about him was that the character loved fishing.

Drink and fish. A man of simple tastes. Rest in peace, Larry Dalrymple.

While the thirty-fifth season has yet to arrive on Star+, all the other thirty-four seasons of The Simpsons can be watched on streaming. It is worth remembering that, from June 26th, the service will cease to exist, and all its content will be transferred to Disney+.
