A 57-year-old man was shot dead after attacking a federal highway police officer with a machete in the early hours of Saturday (4). The case took place in front of the Manhuaçu Civil Police station.
According to the Military Police, the man parked the car nearby, got out and remained as if he was observing something. Then, two PRF agents arrived in a vehicle to report an accident. One of them disembarked and the other parked the vehicle. Upon leaving and heading to the police station, the police officer was surprised by the man, who was holding the machete and ran towards him.
According to the PM, the PRF drew his weapon and tried to convince the attacker to drop the machete, but as the order was not obeyed and he went after the agent, the police officer shot. Samu was called and confirmed the death at the place where the events occurred.
“There’s no motivation. It is not known why this attacker decided to attack the Federal Highway Police”, explained Lieutenant Fabiano de Souza, from the PM.
According to the PM, Civil Police experts were called and collected the machete. The PRF weapon, ammunition and magazine were collected for analysis. He was arrested and presented to police authorities.
The PM reported that the attacker already has incidents of contempt and threats against military police officers and neighbors, domestic violence and aggression against his sister on his criminal record.
In a statement, the PRF stated that “in the recorded video it is noted that the PRF still tried to move away from the attacker, in order to avoid the confrontation, but ended up being chased by the armed man, who was attempting to kill his life, leaving him with no other option. in addition to your self-defense.”
