The defense of Sergeant Luís Marcos Reis – one of former president Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) former assistants – and doctor Farley Alcântara, who is Reis’ nephew, asked this Thursday (25) to negotiate a settlement agreement. no criminal prosecution with the Federal Public Ministry.

The non-criminal prosecution agreement is reached between the MPF and the person being investigated, who must confess to the crime and comply with certain measures, such as paying a fine, to avoid being judged.

Luís Reis and Farley Alcântara were indicted by the Federal Police in the investigation into an alleged scheme to falsify Covid vaccine cards.

Bolsonaro and former aide-de-camp Mauro Cid and 15 other people were also indicted by the PF for forging documents and entering false data.

The defense of the sergeant and Alcântara stated that the two participated in the attempt to insert the false vaccination record of Gabriela Cid, Mauro Cid’s wife, and there is no involvement with other facts investigated, such as Bolsonaro’s false data.

According to the lawyers, the manner in which the former sergeant and his nephew acted was punctual, “isolated, absolutely amateurish and carried out through means and methods that were completely inappropriate to achieve the alleged end sought”.

“There is still no narrative of any participation by those investigated in the alleged crimes that would have involved, in a subsequent way, the falsification of vaccination data and the insertion of data supposedly related to former president Jair Bolsonaro and his daughter in the systems of the Ministry of Health”, states the defense.

The request also highlighted that, in a statement to the Federal Police, the doctor “confirmed, in a convincing, exhaustive and detailed way, that there was an exchange of messages with uncle Luis Marcos aimed at obtaining a blank vaccination card for the use of the Mrs Gabriela Santiago Cid”.

The defense highlighted that the two meet the legal requirements to negotiate the agreement, since the eventual penalty for the crimes is less than four years.
