Pregnant doctor is attacked inside the office by a patient in the Federal District

A pregnant doctor was attacked by a patient at a public health center in Asa Norte of the Federal District last Wednesday, 27th. The attack occurred inside the health professional’s office, when she asked the patient to keep a distance between the two due to the Covid-19 protocol. The case was registered at the 5th Police Station as bodily injury.

According to the doctor reported to the Federal District Doctors’ Union, the patient, as soon as she entered the office, took a chair and sat very close to the professional. The doctor then asked the patient to maintain a certain distance due to the Covid-19 prevention protocol and also because she was pregnant. At that moment the patient allegedly slapped the doctor who screamed for help. Other doctors had to intervene.

“The patient entered the office already stressed and when the doctor asked her to keep a distance, she got angry and started attacking her”, reported the president of the DF Doctors Union, Gutemberg Fialho. “Other professionals had to enter the office to take her off the doctor, who was injured.”

The health professional underwent a forensic examination and the patient was taken to the 5th DP. According to police, the 42-year-old attacker had previous convictions for assault.

“This is the reality of the health service that the union has denounced daily: many patients, who wait up to eight or twelve hours to be seen, few health professionals and no security guards”, stated Fialh
