One of the most important sporting competitions in the city for students, integrating children and teenagers in several competitive modalities, the Londrina School Games (JELs) will have wide participation in 2024. The number of registered participants in the annual event is the highest in more than a decade of editions, with 53 school units, 183 teams and around 2 thousand participants, including students and teachers.
This year, JELs activities are scheduled to take place from April 15th to 26th, in various gyms and spaces in the city, with basketball, futsal, handball, volleyball and beach volleyball games. State public and private schools will participate.
Only since 2017, when Mayor Marcelo Belinati’s administration began, until the current edition (2024), the number of schools, teams and participants registered in the JELs has practically doubled. That year, 32 school units, 89 teams and 1,063 students and teachers were involved. In 2023, the event received 38 registrations from schools, totaling 110 teams and 1,100 participants. In 2020 and 2021, the event was not held due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the municipal phase of the Londrina 2024 School Games, qualifying for the regional of the 70th Paraná School Games (JEPs), competitions will take place in categories A, for the 15 to 17 age group, and B, for students aged 12 to 14 years. The gymnasiums at Moringão, Unopar, Unifil, Colégio Vicente Rijo, Colégio Londrinense, Lar Anália Franco, as well as the Jardim Bandeirantes Gymnasium and the Aterro do Lago Igapó will host the activities.
The president of the Londrina Sports Foundation, Marcelo Oguido, celebrated the significant turnout for the 2024 edition, mobilizing schools from all regions of the city in a large and traditional event. “We, at FEL, are very happy and proud to see such movement for this competition that is so important for young people in our city. The increase in participation has been occurring year after year, which motivates us to make the event even stronger in future editions. It is an effective work of presence that combines the efforts of teachers and management teams from schools in Londrina, together with the Regional Education Center and the Government of Paraná”, he highlighted.
Oguido stressed that it is an honor for the Sports Foundation to be able to collaborate in the staging of the Games, which showcase a high level of competition and help reveal talent. “The competition is very balanced and, as always happens, those who win the municipal phase will certainly represent the city well in the subsequent regional and state stages”, he pointed out.
The initiative is jointly organized by the Londrina Sports Foundation (FEL), Londrina Regional Education Center (NRE) and the Government of Paraná, via the State Secretariat for Sports. JELs technical congress – On April 1st, next Monday, the technical congress of the Londrina 2024 School Games will be held, at 2pm, in the Meeting Room of the Londrina Sports Foundation (FEL), whose headquarters are located at Ginásio Moringão. The address is Rua Gomes Carneiro, 315, Centro.
According to FEL’s Sports and Events advisor, Sandro Henrique dos Santos, this meeting will bring together committees representing each registered school, in order to align the planned schedules, define details and make the necessary adaptations to finalize the organization, covering everyone fairly. . “We invite everyone to attend, representatives will be heard and will have a voice. The idea is to receive requests and adjust the game schedule, regarding locations, days and times of competitions. The technical event is an important part of the final assembly of the tables and agendas, then everything is published and the event begins”, he informed.
Santos said that one of the points on the agenda will be the date of the event, which could start early on April 8th. “Due to the large number of registrations in 2024, above expectations, this is an idea to expand the period of the games, speeding up and facilitating the participation of all teams involved”, he pointed out.
