During the morning of last Monday (25), the Maria Penha Patrol carried out leafleting in front of the Arapongas Women’s Police Station. The initiative is part of the actions of the National Week to Combat Violence Against Women. The event also included the participation of councilor Meiry Farais.
According to the coordinator of Patrol Maria da Penha, GM Michele Zanin, specific actions will be carried out to combat crimes against women, by raising awareness among the entire population. “The Maria da Penha Patrol’s objective is to monitor aggressors and ensure that they comply with the measures, ensuring the effectiveness of the Maria da Penha Law. With this, we want to involve the whole of society. This is a fight for everyone”, she highlighted. Furthermore, the activities integrate actions and commitments agreed in the Term of Adhesion to the National Pact to Combat Violence against Women, establishing a direct relationship with the community, ensuring monitoring and care for women victims of domestic and family violence.

The mayor of Arapongas, Sérgio Onofre, sanctioned Law No. 5,319 of March 18, 2024, which establishes the “Municipal Week to combat violence against Women”, in reference to the Maria da Penha Law, Federal Law No. 11,340/2006; to be held annually in the last week of March. The actions aim to raise awareness about combating violence against women, through lectures, social actions and campaigns. The bill was authored by Councilor Meiry Farias. Sérgio Onofre highlighted the efforts of public authorities with effective measures and public policies aimed at women. “Unfortunately, we still have records of crimes against women across the country. But we cannot stop taking the necessary actions to combat and respond to these cases,” he concluded.
