Record was ordered to pay compensation of R$20,000 to actress and writer Tânia Regina, aged 65. The information was released this Tuesday (7). The decision was taken because Tânia was the target of attacks after the broadcast of a report on the program “Balanço Geral”, in 2021.
Judge Alexandre Coelho claimed that the matter contained “distortions and untruths”, in addition to having caused “disastrous consequences”. The actress’ house, which is located in the interior of São Paulo, was stoned, and she suffered offenses on the streets, such as someone spitting on her.
The report titled “Who is the soap opera actress who was accused of kidnapping a girl after adopting her?” told the story of when Tânia adopted a child in the 1980s. At the time, she took action to prevent her biological mother from killing her. The artist saw her mother attacking the five-year-old girl when she returned from a recording of the soap opera “Rosa Baiana”, on Rede Bandeirantes, in Salvador (BA).
The adoption was legally validated after a thorough investigation. A year later, with the end of recording, Tânia took the child to São Paulo, where she lived. In 2021, at the age of 46, the actress’s daughter contacted Record to try to locate a biological relative. The broadcaster and the artist then managed to find her brother, who was living in South Africa.
“What was supposed to be a beautiful story of overcoming, became true chaos in the actress’ life”Tânia’s defense lawyer, Luiz Antunes, declared to the court. “The broadcaster abused sensationalism to gain an audience”, he said in the lawsuit. In addition to using the word “kidnapping”, the report implied that Tânia was attacking the child.
“The editing of the report was not in accordance with the dictates of the journalism code of ethics”stated Coelho in the decision. “Giving all viewers to understand, on a national level, that the actress would be responsible for the suffering of the person she adopted is untrue information that attacks her honor and dignity”he added.
Record can still file the appeal. “The report refers to the period prior to adoption and, to reach this conclusion, simply viewing the report is enough”the broadcaster declared to the Court. “The article emphasized the noble and heroic attitude of the actress in adopting the girl, probably sparing her a tragic fate,” scored.
