Who would have thought that Kim Kardashian’s office furniture could give the star such a headache… This Thursday (28), Page Six reported that the businesswoman was sued by the foundation that manages designer Donald Judd’s estate for allegedly presenting “false versions” of Judd’s articles as true.

The action began after Kim exposed her office decor in a video recorded in 2022. In the publication, she shows a selection of minimalist wooden pieces that look like two pieces of furniture created by Judd: La Mansana Table 22 and Chair 84, items that they cost US$90 thousand (R$450 thousand) and US$9 thousand (R$45 thousand), respectively. “These Donald Judd tables are really amazing and totally match the seats.”, said the beauty. The video, however, has now been deleted.

However, according to court documents, the furniture is fake. The Judd Foundation states that Kim obtained the pieces through the company Clements Design, which “manufactured and sold counterfeit versions of Judd’s designs.” The text also points out that Kim probably did not know she was buying copies, as the company had used original photos to “deceptively announce that the works were authorized, authentic furniture by Donald Judd”.

For the plaintiffs in the suit, they expected Kim to “own and display authentic – not fake – Donald Judd furniture and have real and true – not fake – endorsements from celebrities, designers or artists with whom she discusses work or mentions by name. ”.

In a statement, Clements Design said the allegations have “absolutely no merit.” “This issue was brought to our attention over a year ago. We communicated with the Judd Foundation board and explained to them in no uncertain terms that there were important and obvious differences between the tables and chairs in Kim’s office and the tables and chairs at the Judd Foundation.”stated the organization.

According to the company, the Judd Foundation’s previous lawyer recognized the differences and information on the matter disappeared for more than a year. “Now we are being surprised by a lawsuit. Efforts were made to resolve this matter amicably at the time and the Judd Foundation was unwilling to reach an agreement on reasonable terms.”he completed.

The Judd Foundation, in turn, said it was “surprised” by the interior design company’s allegations. “The Judd Foundation has repeatedly attempted to obtain clarity from Clements Design and Kim Kardashian about how and why they copied and promoted fake furniture as being authentically by Donald Judd. The fact is that Clements Design sold Ms. Kardashian fake copies of the Donald Judd La Mansana Table and Donald Judd 84 Chair, using the Judd Foundation’s copyrighted photo to do so. Kardashian then promoted the furniture as ‘Donald Judd’ to millions of her social media followers.”justified the text.

The foundation further states that Clements Design “refused to take any steps to resolve this issue”, that’s why “reluctantly went to court to protect its intellectual property rights and the meaning of Donald Judd’s timeless designs.”
