Raul Gil takes SBT by surprise by announcing his retirement from Globo

It was with surprise and strangeness that SBT learned through the press, this Wednesday (27), that Raul Gil will retire from TV and will no longer continue with his program on Silvio Santos’ channel. He went to Globo to receive a tribute from Luciano Huck, on Domingão, and ended up releasing information on stage about the end of his artistic career.

And SBT knew absolutely nothing. The presenter and his son, Raul Gil Junior (known in the market as “Raulzinho”), did not have any conversation with the broadcaster about this decision.

“So far, Raul Gil has not made official his desire to retire from SBT. In any case, the broadcaster will respect his wishes”, said the SBT press office in response to the column.

Our sources reported that when Raul renewed his contract for 2024 directly with Leon Abravanel, Silvio Santos’ brother, he seemed quite happy, because for years he had been asking for his program to start earlier, closer to noon. And this only became possible thanks to the new attractions developed for this year’s schedule.

But in the conversation, at no point was tiredness, discontent or a desire to end his TV career mentioned. As he is a very beloved figure at the broadcaster, obviously no one will oppose his will, but there was a certain “rancidity” (if we can say so) because he did not first inform the SBT executives about his decision to retire and kept this information to release on Globo.

According to columnist Zean Bravo, from the newspaper Extra, Raul said the following on the Domingão stage: “I’ll retire in 2024. Unless they don’t let me. But I want to retire this year.”
