Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors, received an annual salary of R$142 million in 2023. However, this amount was not enough to maintain her position as the highest paid automotive executive in Detroit. Instead, Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis, reached the top of the list, with a gain of an impressive R$201 million.

For a long time, Mary Barra was the highest-paid automotive executive in the North American city, but her total compensation fell 4% from R$148 million in 2022 due to a reduction in bonus payments. Her base salary was unchanged at R$10.7 million, the same amount as the previous two years.

While the GM leader saw her compensation decrease, the same cannot be said about Carlos Tavares, the CEO of Stellantis. His total compensation increased by an impressive 56% in 2022, reaching R$201 million, as reported by the Detroit News.

Although it is a gigantic amount, Stellantis recorded a record net profit of R$102 billion in 2023, an increase of 11% compared to 2022. This growth was mainly driven by higher vehicle prices.

In 2023, Ford’s chief executive, Jim Farley, secured an impressive amount, reaching almost R$135 million. This amount includes a base salary of R$8.7 million and share bonuses worth R$104 million. His total salary was equivalent to 312 times the average total salary of all Ford employees in the same period.

How many Fiat Mobi Stellantis do you need to sell?

Carlos Tavares’ annual salary is around R$200 million, the Fiat Mobi in Brazil costs R$72,990, so the company needs to sell around 2739 cars to pay the Stellantis CEO’s salary.
