The long-awaited mid-range pickup truck Volkswagen Tarokpresented as a concept at the 2018 São Paulo Motor Show, It will finally be off the ground in the first quarter of 2026. The project, also known as Udara or VW247, will be a real-life simplified version of the prototype from six years ago.

This is because the Production Tarok will swap the MQB-A base of the Taoswhich was present at the 2018 Tarok Concept, by the MQB A0 matrix, smaller and less sophisticated, than T-Cross. You will therefore have the body of the compact SUV as a starting point for building your cabin from the B column forward. From then on, the structure will be unprecedented, with a double cabin and bucket.

Among the simplifications brought about by this change is the adoption of a rear suspension that is not independent, as was the case on the Tarok Concept. According to Mobiauto, the pickup truck’s architecture will be a rigid axle with semi-elliptical springs, just like the Fiat Strada. With this, Tarok will give up comfort on board in favor of greater robustness, load capacity and reliability.

Despite this, the Tarok’s size will be compact-medium, similar to that of the Chevrolet Montana and Renault Oroch. Your objective will be to fight against these two plus the entry-level versions of the Fiat Toro and the top versions of the Strada itself, equipped with a 1.0 turbo engine.

According to findings from the Autosport, the use of a flex hybrid package is practically ruled out in the first phase of marketing the Volkswagen Tarok. However, the truck has a great chance of being responsible for the debut of the 1.5 TSI Evo2 flex engine. 150 hp It is 25.5 kgfm of torque, replacing the current 1.4 TSI.

Allied to it will be the well-known automated dual-clutch transmission with seven gears and an oil-bathed gearbox (the famous DSG). It’s not yet certain, but it’s unlikely that there will be more basic versions with a 1.0 turbo engine. 120 hp It is 20.4 kgfm of torque. Manual versions aimed at work are on the radar.

The production of the Volkswagen Tarok will be in São José dos Pinhais (PR), alongside the T-Cross. The planned investment will be between R$1 billion and R$1.5 billion. Its manufacturing will have a new assembly process called frontend, the front balance of the vehicle. It will all be assembled separately, in a modular way, to be integrated with the rest of the vehicle in the final phase of the line.

O frontend groups components such as the bumper core, the basic structure that connects the two side members, the entire radiator and electric fan assembly, water and air conditioning hoses, headlight and bumper support, intercooler (in the case of a turbo) and the crash box crossmember.

The projection, merely illustrative, is by João Kleber Amaral. Despite the arrival of the Tarok, the Saveiro should be kept in line as the brand’s entry-level pickup, priced between R$100,000 and R$120,000. The Tarok should cost between R$120,000 and R$180,000.

Although the name Tarok is used daily by Volkswagen engineers to refer to the model, even more than Udara or the code VW247, there is no guarantee that it will actually be used to name the production version. Just look at Taos, which before being launched was internally called Tarek.
