O IPCA-15considered the preview of the inflation, showed a slowdown in March, with a variation of 0.36%, which represents a drop of 0.42 percentage points compared to the previous month. The Food and Beverages group was mainly responsible for this result, with an increase of 0.91% and an impact of 0.19 pp on the general index. The data was released by IBGE this Tuesday (26). The IPCA-E, which corresponds to the IPCA-15 accumulated quarterly, registered a variation of 1.46% in March, below the 2.01% in the same period in 2023. In the last 12 months, the IPCA-15 had a variation of 4.14%, lower than the 4.49% observed in the previous 12 months. In March 2023, the index was 0.69%. Of the nine groups of products and services surveyed, five showed an increase in March. In addition to Food and Beverages, the Transport and Health and Personal Care groups also stood out, with variations of 0.43% and 0.61%, respectively. The remaining variations were between − 0.58% and 0.19%.

In the Food and Beverages group, food at home increased by 1.04% in March, driven by increases in onionof chicken’s eggof fruits and long-life milk. On the other hand, items such as potatoes, carrots and soybean oil fell. Eating away from home accelerated compared to the previous month, due to a more intense increase in meals. In relation to the Transport group, airfare had a significant drop, while gasoline had the biggest positive impact. Ethanol prices rose, while vehicle gas and diesel oil fell. In the taxi sub-item, there was an increase due to readjustments in some cities.

In the Health and Personal Care category, the health plan, pharmaceutical products and personal hygiene items influenced the result. In Housing, the highlight was piped gas, which had tariff adjustments incorporated as of February. In relation to regional indices, all areas increased in March, with Belém registering the highest variation, and Goiânia, the lowest. The IPCA-15 calculation methodology is the same as the IPCA, with the difference in the price collection period and geographic coverage.
