Gospel singer Izabela Cristy and her husband, David Robson de Barros, were convicted by the courts of embezzlement and a pyramid scheme. The couple is accused of running scams on an investment platform, attracting customers with the promise that they would make 100% profits in a few days. The decision is in the 1st Instance and can still be appealed (remember the case at the end of the article).

Isabela Cristi Gomes Barros (Izabela’s official name) and David were sentenced to 9 years in prison. While David will serve his sentence in prison, Izabela will remain under house arrest. The fact that the singer has a daughter under 12 may have influenced the court’s decision.

Izabela and David were also ordered to pay two compensations: one of R$7.5 million for collective moral damages and another of R$205 thousand for material damages. A Itatiaia contacted the couple’s defense and is awaiting a response. The space remains open.

Remember the case

Gospel singer Izabela Cristy, 28, and her husband David Robson de Barros, 33, are suspected of coordinate a financial pyramid scheme which caused damage to around 300 people. According to the Civil Police, the couple presented themselves as owners of an investment company that promised 100% returns in 40 days.

The victims reported that they received a return on their investments and then ended up deciding to invest larger amounts. The “profits” stopped being passed on in mid-2021, which left investors on alert.

Izabela went to home prison in June 2022, while her husband David benefited from the same decision in August. After their release, victims from other states contacted the Minas Gerais Civil Police, reporting that the couple continued to carry out the same scam, without paying the promised return. With this in hand, the Civil Police represented the couple’s arrest, which was arrested on June 7th.

Izabela and David respond for embezzlement and crime against the popular economy. The Lagoa Santa District judge filed the complaint against another woman who was also being investigated for the same crimes. Izabela returned to house arrest in early September.
