Ronnie Wiggs, 75, was charged with murder after strangling and killing his wife in the hospital, claiming he had no money to pay the medical bill. According to information which the The New York Times had access, Wiggs told police he killed Ellen Wiggs by holding her nose and covering her mouth.

The case occurred last Friday, 3, in Missouri, United States. According to the medical team responsible for monitoring Ellen’s condition, her husband fled the scene after committing the crime. Despite medical efforts to revive her, the woman did not survive.

In his statement to police, Wiggs admitted to killing his wife due to depression and an inability to care for her or pay her medical bills. He also confessed to having previously tried to kill her at a rehabilitation center, but she woke up and stopped him.

The suspect also stated that he considered another murder attempt when she was hospitalized, but was unable to do so due to the machines that kept her alive.

Ronnie was arrested with bail set at US$250,000 (about R$1.2 million) and facing charges of second-degree murder.
