A man was arrested in Pennsylvania, United States, after entering a church and shooting at a pastor while preaching. The case happened on Sunday afternoon (5).
Police identified the shooter as 26-year-old Bernard J. Polite. He accessed the religious space and went to the pulpit with a gun, where Reverend Glenn Germany was speaking, however the equipment failed.
At that point, Clarence McCallister, a deacon at the church, managed to detain and disarm the man until the police arrived.
The episode took place at Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church, which broadcast live on social media the moment the man pulled out the gun and pointed it at the pastor.
In an interview with the broadcaster ABC, the religious leader classified the case as a “miracle”. Germany said he “is grateful to God for still being alive, because he [o suspeito] he definitely pulled the trigger.” According to the pastor, the man had never appeared at church before the incident.
Bernard Polite confessed to the police that he tried to shoot Germany, justifying his action as a “request from God” and “the desire to go to prison to clear his mind”.
Police went to the suspect’s home after the crime, where they found a man shot. According to authorities, the victim was identified as Derek Polite, 56 years old, and was believed to be a relative of the criminal.
