The Argentine government informed this Wednesday (8) that public employees who join the general strike, called by the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) for Thursday (9), will have the day deducted from their salaries.

“The strike has no apparent reason. Line 134 remains open to report extortion [em casos em que trabalhadores sejam obrigados a aderir ao protesto]. State employees who stop will have their salaries deducted. The organizations that participate in the march will have to bear the expenses that the situation causes”, said the spokesperson for the Argentine presidency, Manuel Adorni, according to the Clarín newspaper.

“Tomorrow, the fundamentalists will stop the delay that the workers carry on their shoulders. They will only earn the contempt of those who want to go to work”, added Adorni.

The CGT contests the fiscal adjustment and reforms under Javier Milei’s administration, which were approved at the end of April by the Chamber of Deputies. The changes are now being processed in the Senate.

The general strike called by the CGT is the second since Milei arrived at Casa Rosada, in December last year – the first was carried out on January 24th.
