The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, met again with billionaire Elon Musk, during a quick visit to the United States on Monday (6). The two spoke again about the possibility of Tesla making investments in the South American country and discussed Musk’s promised visit to Argentina in the second half of the year.

Milei also met with the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, with whom he shared his project to promote Sports Corporations (SADs), equivalent to Brazilian SAFs in his country.

It was the second time that the Argentine president met with Musk since his arrival at Casa Rosada, after a first visit in April to the Tesla factory, when both agreed on “the importance of technological development for the progress of humanity and the need to establish clear and stable rules of the game to be able to bring in companies that promote this development”.

Yesterday, once again, they posed for photos, which were published and shared on social media. “Great meeting with President @JMilei,” Musk posted. “I recommend investing in Argentina”, he added.

Later, when speaking at a Milken Institute event, the Argentine president once again highlighted his admiration for the Tela and SpaceX executive: “I don’t want to stop celebrating my friend Elon Musk’s effort to set foot on Mars, because we understand that Space exploration is at the height of our destiny as an exploring species, too big to be confined to this planet.”

With Gianni Infantino, Milei discussed one of the ruling party’s main initiatives in sports matters: the Sports Corporations (SAD). On the occasion, the FIFA president presented the Argentine with a ball and a number 10 t-shirt with Milei’s name printed on it.

The meeting was also attended by Gerardo Werthein, who, in addition to being Argentine ambassador to the United States, was president of the Argentine Olympic Committee (COA) between 2009 and 2021.

The club model proposed by Milei involves operating for profit. Argentine newspapers highlight that, in this management model, the biggest club owners in this type of partnership are investors. In this way, the partners are left without any decision-making power over the entities, since the power remains exclusively in the hands of the shareholders.

Decree DNU 70/23 promulgated by Milei makes this type of business possible for Argentine clubs. However, the Court suspended this section of the regulation and explained that “the articles change the status of a social impact group such as sporting entities, as it impedes the development of their associative life”.
