Petrobras (PETR3; PETR4) agreed to transfer part of its quota of natural gas acquired from Bolivia to Argentina starting in July. This agreement was established with Energia Argentina (Enarsa) and involves the allocation of up to 5 million cubic meters per day. The information is from Estadão.

According to the newspaper, the transferred gas will be used to ensure the supply of thermoelectric plants, as well as to meet residential and industrial demands in the province of Salta and other regions of northern Argentina.

This transfer will be carried out during the winter months, while Argentina awaits the completion of the northern gas pipeline, which was recently tendered. After completion of the works, the northern region of Argentina will be supplied with gas from reserves in the Vaca Muerta fields.

This gas transfer is part of a memorandum of understanding signed on April 18 between Petrobras and Enarsa. In addition to the gas transfer, the memorandum also includes the exchange of information and the carrying out of feasibility studies for energy cooperation between the two companies.

On the other hand, the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) revealed that Petrobras dumped untreated water into the sea for around three years. This revelation led the MPF to launch a detailed investigation, with the opening of an inquiry last week to thoroughly examine the situation.

The investigations began after environmental fines were imposed by the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) on Petrobras. Inspectors found that the P-18 platform regularly released untreated water into the sea between 2017 and 2020.

MPF

In the last sixty days, the MPF opened two more investigations against the company to investigate the same infraction, according to the column by Guilherme Amado, from Metrópoles. Only in 2023, during Lula’s government, Petrobras received a fine of R$14 million from Ibama due to inadequate disposal of the material.

So far, Petrobras has not commented on the matter.
