Military helicopter for community aid crashes in the Amazon and eight crew members die

Eight crew members, including three civilians, died when a military helicopter crashed last Thursday (25), in the Ecuadorian Amazon. According to the Army, due to weather conditions, it was not possible to recover the bodies that day. The accident was announced this Friday (26).

“The remains of the crew and passengers of the MI171E helicopter, registration AEE-485, which crashed in the Tiwino sector, Pastaza province, were located. [leste, na fronteira com o Peru]”, said the Army in a statement. The bodies should be recovered this Saturday (27).

In the helicopter were the pilot, the co-pilot, three mechanics and three civilians. The helicopter carried out support operations for the National Risk Management Secretariat, transporting food and supplies to communities affected by floods.
