Spanish justice mistakenly released the head of a multimillion-dollar cartel, who allegedly planned to assassinate the heir to the Dutch throne and Prime Minister Mark Rutte. Karim Bouyakhrichan is number one in the “Mocro Mafia”, considered the most wanted and dangerous criminal in the Netherlands. Since he left jail, Bouyakhrichan’s whereabouts have been unknown.

According to the El Paíshe was released following an apparent discrepancy between the Malaga Provincial Court, which ordered his release less than a month and a half after he was arrested for money laundering in Spain, and the Spanish Supreme Court, which was considering a request for extradition of Bouyakhrichan by Dutch authorities.

The Spanish Superior Court has already issued a new arrest warrant for the alleged mobster. Maffia Mocro is a Dutch-Moroccan criminal network based in the Netherlands, considered responsible for smuggling huge quantities of cocaine into Europe through the Dutch ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam, as well as other crimes such as murder, extortion and kidnapping.

Bouyakhrichan was initially detained in January by the Spanish National Police’s Special Response Group to Organized Crime (GRECO) in Marbella. At the time, 172 properties were embargoed, including several mansions in Marbella valued at more than US$50 million (R$257 million), and 178 bank accounts containing more than US$3 million (R$15 million) were frozen.
