The Lebanese radical Shiite group Hezbollah attacked two military positions in northern Israel with drones this Tuesday, in response to the death of one of its members in an Israeli bombing raid in southern Lebanon. The attack reached an area considerably further south than the areas the Lebanese group normally attacks, and was the deepest since the start of the war.

Hezbollah fighters carried out drone bombing against two Israeli military positions in the north of the city of Acre, the pro-Iran movement announced in a statement.

The Shiite group, which has intensified its actions in recent days, normally limits itself to attacking positions on the border.

Earlier, the Israeli military said it killed Hussein Ali Azqul in an airstrike in southern Lebanon and described him as a “significant” operative in Hezbollah’s air defense unit. The Israeli military said in a statement that it “successfully intercepted two suspected aerial targets off the northern coast.”

State media and witnesses said the attack took place in the Adloun area, between the coastal cities of Sidon and Tyre, about 40 kilometers north of the border with Israel. The man was “involved in the planning and execution of terrorist attacks against Israel and in the activities of a Hezbollah air unit,” he added.

The Israeli army also announced that it had eliminated a “key terrorist from the forces of Al Radwan”, Hezbollah’s elite unit.
