Globo’s current nine o’clock soap opera, Reborn has not yet managed to repeat the Pantanal phenomenon (2022), which was the broadcaster’s expectation. The remake of the 1993 classic has maintained an average audience rating that is just acceptable by current standards, but nothing compared to the story of José Leôncio (Marcos Palmeira).
However, more than the lower than expected audience, Renascer did not achieve as much repercussion with the public as Pantanal. The plot’s engagement on the internet is weak, which creates a problem for the broadcaster, which usually uses this data when selling its productions to the advertising market.
To try to reverse the bad phase, the broadcaster has been making changes to the plot. The channel accelerated the narrative to anticipate the turn of João Pedro (Juan Paiva) and started to focus more on Eliana (Sophie Charlotte).
Furthermore, the plot rewritten by Bruno Luperi focuses on changes and new characters.
New characters
A change proposed by Bruno Luperi to the original text by Benedito Ruy Barbosa is the insertion of new characters, also with the aim of moving the plot forward and tying up some loose ends.
Du (José Duboc), the father of Teca’s (Livia Silva) son, had a minor role in the first version. At this point in the plot, the boy no longer appeared. But, in the remake, Du and Teca must meet again in the next chapters.
Furthermore, three of Buba’s friends (Gabriela Medeiros) recently appeared in the plot. Natasha (Galba Gogoia), Janaína (Bianca Dellafancy) and Maitê (Gabriela Loran) threw a party for the psychologist. The idea of this movement is to make Buba have a life of her own, since, in the first version, she lived as a function of Venâncio. It is not yet known whether the characters will make new appearances.
Soon, the character’s parents will also appear on the scene, played by Guilherme Fontes and Malu Galli.
Meanwhile, some guys will experience the end of the line, like Kika (Juliane Araújo) and Eriberto (Pedro Neschling), something that already happened in the first version. The departure of other names is not ruled out.
João Pedro’s turn
Another measure by Globo to try to get the public’s attention was to re-edit the chapters and give Renascer more rhythm. With this, João Pedro’s expected turnaround was brought forward.
One of the problems with the plot was precisely the fact that its protagonists were always sad, gloomy and frowning. The clash between José Inocêncio (Marcos Palmeira) and João Pedro was always marked by fights, exchanges of accusations and injustices. The public was eager to see João Pedro happier.
This happened in the most recent chapters of the plot. José Inocêncio asked João Pedro for forgiveness and, recently, he defended the youngest son from José Bento’s (Marcello Melo Jr) madness. Furthermore, he showed pride in the fine cocoa produced by his son and proposed partnership, eliciting a smile from João Pedro. Finally!
Soon, João Pedro will resume his relationship with Sandra (Giullia Buscacio), after discovering that the girl is pregnant.
Eliana becomes the protagonist
Another change observed is the change in Eliana’s profile. In the first version of the soap opera, the character was played by Patrícia Pillar and was portrayed as a dazzled hysteric.
This time, the character gained more layers, such as the fact that she was frustrated after giving up her modeling career to marry José Venâncio (Rodrigo Simas). The case with Damião (Shaman) will also take on new aspects.
Eliana continues to do a lot, but now there is a justification for her actions that goes beyond simple spite. The arrival of the dondoca at the farm placed her as the great female protagonist of Renascer, which should move the story forward – after Venâncio’s death, she will unmask Buba and exchange Damião for Egídio (Vladimir Brichta).
