It’s not often that a huge budget ends up translating into big viewing figures, but a relatively recent success story from Netflix no doubt, Red alertthe action film starring Gal Gadot, Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds in 2021 that currently holds a record among the streaming platform’s original titles.

The film, directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, was at the time the highest-budgeted film in the platform’s history – now tied with Ryan Gosling’s Dark Agent released in 2022, both costing $200 million – but it also has the honor of being the film most watched. At least since the company started allowing its data to be public.

According to the Global Top 10 by which Netflix shares its numbers, Red Alert ranks first on the “Most Popular English-Language Films” list with 230.9 million plays as of April 2024. It is followed, but not right on their heels, for the post-apocalyptic comedy Don’t Look Up, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio, with 171 million reproductions.
