For the sake of entertainment, dispute between Celso Portiolli and Luciano Huck revives Sunday war

In 2024, almost two decades later, who could have imagined that we would be facing a new dispute between Domingão and Domingo Legal? Since last April 14th, Luciano Huck and Celso Portiolli started facing each other for just over an hourre-editing the classic war between Fausto Silva and Gugu Liberato (1959-2019).

Today, however, the reality is different. Averages close to 30 points and the politically “incorrect” – nostalgia, 90s/2000s… – are out and more modest indices are in, but enough to place both in first place. In the first clash, Luciano Huck won with an advantage: 11.2 x 8.2. Last Sunday (21), however, the distance in favor of Globo narrowed, with Celso Portiolli leading by 10 minutes: 9.2 x 8.3.

With Silvio Santos’ “vacation”, Portiolli became the personification of the spirit of SBT, whether in the joy it conveys to the public or in the ability to entertain with mastery. Currently, nothing and no one is as SBT as Celso. Hence the indications of more investments and more screen time for the Nice Sunday with the departure of Eliana. The dedication and effort of director Junior Gargalaca and his team are remarkable, and the audience has been rewarding.

On the side of Globe, Luciano Huck, after consolidating himself at 6pm, received quite a mission: to stop the growth of Celso Portiolli, in a range that not even Hurricane Ivete Sangalo was able to do. Today, Angélica’s husband has become the main entertainment presenter of plim plim, which justifies the arduous task received. Being successful at Globo is relatively easy, but to maintain it you need talent – and there is. Huck has been demonstrating this since he took over Sundaywith paintings, ideas and tireless production, willing to always surprise the public.

The fight is good

In this fight between two giants, Brazilian TV and viewers win. It is still too early to demand and outline any path for Domingão in its first part, but, clearly, one can imagine what new developments will be tested in the coming weeks. On Domingo Legal’s side, the program reigned once again and became, without a shadow of a doubt, SBT’s flagship once again. Celso, more than anyone, deserves this.

If there is a truckload of money, a large team and formats available from Globo, SBT’s side expects at least something close to that, given the competitor’s capabilities. Today, it is possible to say that the Sunday war is more alive than ever, for the sake of entertainment.
