Nintendo, in its most recent financial report, made a very interesting prediction about the Switch. According to the company’s estimates, around 13.5 million units of the device will be sold during this fiscal year, taking the total to more than 154.8 million.

This should be enough to surpass the Nintendo DS, which registered 154 million, and get very close to the PlayStation 2 in the ranking of the best-selling consoles of all time. Although it is not an official number, the Sony console would be worth around 158 million (via VGChartz).

Check out the Top 5 consoles of all time in sales:

1 – PlayStation 2, with 158 million units

2 – Nintendo DS, with 154.02 million units

3 – Nintendo Switch, with 139.5 million units

4 – Game Boy, with 118.69 million units

5 – PlayStation 4, with 117.17 million units

Two interesting details in this Top 5: three portable devices from Nintendo and two consoles from Sony form the “elite”. The PS5, in turn, has around 57 million units.

Switch 2 will arrive this fiscal year

Something that could end up preventing Nintendo from being able to reach this mark is the fact that it has just confirmed that the Switch 2 will be launched this fiscal year – probably, at the end of the period. In other words, many people may end up waiting for it instead of buying the current model.
