The last few weeks have been quite an emotional rollercoaster for anyone who follows “extraction shooters”. After the disaster that was the “new” version of “Escape from Tarkov” that would limit access to a PVE mode only to those who spent US$250, Madfinger Games launched this Tuesday (30) “Gray Zone Warfare” on Steam Early Access from R$101.99 and… well… apparently the community isn’t very happy with it either.

The shooter, whose main focus is its 42km² map and, in theory, more emphasis on also fighting the AI in addition to other players (i.e. PvEvP) apparently has serious performance problems on PC, with owners of cards well above average, having difficulty running it at more than 30 frames per second. This is in “traditional” resolutions like 1080p. Until now, the developer has not commented on the performance issues.

That said, I’m mildly curious to play it. It features everything I find interesting in a tactical shooter. A very large map, a good variety of equipment – all of them highly customizable – and in theory a sandbox mode where you can complete various types of missions and raise your rank with factions.

As it is still in its early stages, the game does not yet have many features promised for version 1.0 – there is still no release date. Among them are more refined AI, greater variety of missions, day and night cycle, and accommodation for your player and their equipment.

It remains to be seen whether the community will still be present, after the turbulent start, to see these additions. It’s about time we had an alternative to “Escape from Tarkov” and I really hope “Gray Zone Warfare” becomes one of them.
