HMD is adopting a new strategy that aims to expand its name in the cell phone market to the detriment of Nokia. However, the company is still preparing to launch devices using the iconic brand — and we are not talking about smartphones, but rather basic cell phones with only essential functions, such as support for 4G.

On Monday (22), a leak shared by Android Headlines revealed that the manufacturer is preparing a new version of the Nokia 225 4G, a “basic” cell phone with a physical numeric keypad that caters to users without much experience in products of this type or who do not need the features of a smartphone like the Nokia G310.

The leak indicates that the Nokia 225 4G 2024 will be equipped with a 2.4-inch screen. There is no front camera, but the cell phone has a camera on the back that can have VGA or 3 MP resolution. Under the hood, the model will have 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of internal storage, as well as a battery with a capacity of 1,450 mAh rechargeable via USB-C.

The cell phone also has a P2 standard headphone port. Finally, the model must run the S30+ (Series 30 Plus) operating system.

If it follows the strategy used in other basic cell phones from the brand, it is possible that the model will be launched in Africa and Europe costing less than €100 (around R$550). The manufacturer has not yet confirmed the launch of the Nokia 225 4G 2024, so the launch date is still a mystery.

As mentioned, HMD is already working on launching a family of smartphones called “HMD Pulse”, which will replace the Nokia brand. The line should feature basic models equipped with screens up to 6.56 inches with IPS LCD technology, Unisoc chips, 6 GB of RAM and a 5,000 mAh battery.
