Google appears to be working on a new generation of its most advanced streaming device. The Chromecast with Google TV 4K should be relaunched soon, bringing important improvements to its hardware, as well as a new remote control.

Sources of 9to5Google stated on Monday (22) that the streaming device the company has been working on for months is, in fact, the second generation of Chromecast with Google TV 4K. One of the biggest highlights of the new version will be a faster processor, the Amlogic S905X5, which will replace the Amlogic S905X3 used in the 2020 model.

O new processor will have 6 nanometer lithography, which should guarantee significant performance improvements compared to the 12 nanometer process of the Amlogic S905X3. The generational leap should allow the new generation of streaming device to run Android 14, replacing Android 12, and support the AV1 codec.

In addition to a new chipset, the new generation of Chromecast with Google TV will have a remote control with more buttons, including a curious highlighted button with a “star” icon. There is still no information about its functionality, but it is possible that it is a way of customizing shortcuts for the most used applications, for example.

As for the value, the sources state that the new device will be launched at the same price as the current generation: US$49 (around R$250, in current conversion). The release date is still a mystery, but it is possible that the new Chromecast with Google TV 4K will be presented soon to compete with Amazon’s 2nd generation Fire TV Stick 4K.
