According to a statement from September 2023, Totoki is expected to begin a more “aggressive” period for the brand, with the intention of improving the profit margin and expanding the reach of the main franchises to other platforms — PC.

The executive, in addition to working closely with the president of Sony Group Corporation, Kenichiro Yoshida, has already been overseeing the gaming sector in recent months. He will be more involved with the department once the next successor is found.

Mr. Totoki will work closely with Sony Group Corporation Chairman and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida and the SIE management team to help define the next chapter of PlayStation’s future, including succession to the role of CEO of SIE.

Totoki plans adjustments at PlayStation studios

One of the changes planned for the “Totoki era” is a boost to Bungie’s development strategy. Involved with many problems in recent months, the Destiny studio must take “responsibility” in relation to live services, finding “good solutions” for improvements.

The new executive of the games division takes up his position after a short period with Jim Ryan heading the sector. The former head of PlayStation spent almost 30 years at the company, when he joined in 1994. But it was only in 2019 that Ryan took over as CEO, leaving it five years later.
