Arthur Elias calls up the women’s team for friendlies against Jamaica; see list | Brazilian Team

Coach Arthur Elias called up the Brazilian women’s team this Friday for two preparatory friendlies for the Paris Olympics, both against Jamaica, the team responsible for Brazil’s elimination from the 2023 Women’s World Cup. The games will be in June, on the day first, in Recife, and on the 4th, in Salvador.

– We face a team that has played good games, had an excellent World Cup and will be a good test for the Olympics – said Arthur Elias before announcing the list of 26 players.

Jamaica has never beaten Brazil. In three clashes, there were two Brazilian victories, but the draw in the last match felt like a defeat. The selection then led by Pia Sundhage did not come out 0-0 against the Jamaicans in the third round of Group F, in Melbourne, and ended up being eliminated early in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Like Brazil, the Jamaican team also changed command after the World Cup. Xavier Gilbert continues as interim coach, replacing Lorne Donaldson, who left the national team for the Chicago Red Stars after taking the Jamaicans to the round of 16, their best result in a Women’s World Cup.

The Brazilian team is in Group C of the Olympics and will debut against Nigeria, on July 25th, in Bordeaux. The other games in the first phase are against Japan, on the 28th, at the Parc des Princes, in Paris, and Spain, on the 31st, again at the Stade de Bordeaux.

Although this is the last call-up before the announcement of the final list for the Olympics, Arthur Elias made it clear that there is still room for news until he finalizes the 18 players and four substitutes for the Paris Games.

– Nothing is closed, in football things happen very quickly. While we are close to the final list, we still have many rounds of competitions to take place. Debinha is not on that list right now, but she is returning from injury, she played a few minutes at her club, we will continue to watch. Just like Lauren, Geyse and others who have performed well. There’s nothing closed, but it’s clear that, broadly speaking, we’re not going to stray too far from that. It is clear that most of the names will come from this group – said the coach, who revealed that he has approximately 35 players under evaluation.
