During the Formula 1 Miami GP, the presence of former United States President Donald Trump in the McLaren pit ended up being associated by some people with Lando Norris’ victory. However, the team chose to minimize any effect attributed to the politician’s presence.

Although the presence of political figures is common at F1 races, Trump’s presence has sparked controversy due to his history of controversial statements.

After Trump posed for photos with team CEO Zak Brown and visited the McLaren pit, the team issued a statement emphasizing its position as a non-political organization. McLaren said it accepted Trump’s visit, along with other F1 leaders, as a way to show the world the high-level engineering the team brings to motorsport.

However, the team acknowledged concerns raised about Trump’s presence, especially amid a trial he is involved in in New York.

Despite some claims that Trump would be a ‘lucky charm’ for Norris, the British driver claimed he did not see the former president in the pits during the build-up to the race. Norris expressed gratitude for Trump’s recognition after the win, but stressed that the focus was on his performance on the track.
