Domenicali predicts end to Verstappen’s dominance

Max Verstappen is on track for his fourth consecutive Formula 1 title, but the category’s CEO, Stefano Domenicali, believes the Dutch driver’s reign is nearing an end.

Despite the dominant start in 2024, with four victories in six races, Domenicali is betting on the evolution of rival teams to balance the competition.

“We don’t want artificial results because of the performance of a single driver,” Domenicali told ESPN. “That’s not the point of sport.”

The director highlighted that F1 has always had cycles of dominance, but highlighted the importance of unpredictability to maintain fans’ interest.

“If the races become too predictable, it becomes difficult to overcome the legend,” said Domenicali. “We need to respect that Max has been the best driver, but soon someone else could take that place.”

The lack of close disputes in recent seasons generated criticism from some of the public. However, Domenicali minimized the complaints and highlighted the high interest in the category.

“This group of fans is very small. We have sold out tickets all over the world, the numbers are growing. They should stay engaged, because big things are coming. All the cars are very close and twists and turns can happen at any time”, concluded Domenicali.
