Inter’s calendar was impacted, like all other clubs from Rio Grande do Sul, by the climate tragedy that struck Rio Grande do Sul. Colorado will complete at least a month without playing and sees the situation becoming even tighter than expected.

“We are not going to put football before life”, says Alessandro Barcellos, president of Inter, to Seleção

There will be eight games postponed in total. Three against Juventude, two for the Copa do Brasil and one in the Brasileirão, Cruzeiro, Cuiabá, São Paulo, for the Brasileirão, and Real Tomayapo and Delfín for the Copa Sudamericana.

The club, in fact, prioritizes helping employees and people impacted by the flood and understands that the time is not to return to games. President Alessandro Barcellos’ statement is that the Brasileirão should be stopped and not just have the Rio Grande do Sul games postponed.

— This palliative measure is insufficient, in this sense we record that this dialogue needs to be kept open and the CBF listening to the clubs. May this listening be true and can raise awareness. I don’t have a solution, I’m not proposing the extinction of the championship, but perhaps a few rounds, which could allow football to take a backseat — Barcellos highlighted to Seleção Sportv.

If the new schedule is maintained, Colorado will only play an official match again on May 28, when the duel with Belgrano for the Copa Sudamericana is scheduled. The last commitment occurred in the 1-1 draw with Atlético-GO on April 28.

The match with the Argentines is scheduled to take place in Beira-Rio. Here reigns the reason for a new doubt. After all, the stadium is now flooded, as is much of Porto Alegre and Rio Grande do Sul.

To make matters worse, Salgado Filho Airport is closed indefinitely and flights are suspended until at least May 30th. In other words, even if the stadium is restored to host the match, the Argentines would have to travel part of the way by bus.

The scenario impacts on a tightening of dates when he returns to work. CBF and Conmebol have not yet officially commented, but the idea behind the scenes is to restore the matches on FIFA dates. From the 3rd to the 11th, the Brasileirão will have a break for the national team games. There will be another three throughout the year, in September, October and November.

The priority would be the Brazilian and South American Cup clashes, due to the progress of both competitions. The round of 16 of the national tournament is scheduled for the end of July and beginning of August, while the round of 16 of the continental competition takes place in August.

During the Copa América, the only gap in the Brasileirão calendar is on the weekend of the final of the national team competition. Another space that can be filled with games from teams from Rio Grande do Sul.

Before knowing how the calendar will shape, Inter evaluates where to resume work. Just like Beira-Rio, the Parque Gigante Training Center was swallowed by the waters and is currently unable to carry out any practice. The club from Rio Grande do Sul scheduled a return to training on May 13th, but with the possibility of reviewing the date.

In addition to CT Parque Gigante, Beira-Rio was also submerged. The club was making the final adjustment to switch to winter grass and will need to assess the conditions of the stadium’s field beforehand.

Despite the offer from several Brazilian clubs to use the structures, Inter intends to remain in Porto Alegre to assist in humanitarian aid for the population.
