Disclosure: Kamilla Cardoso
Brazilian Kamilla Cardoso, number 3 pick in the last WNBA draft, will have to wait to make her debut in the competition. This is because she suffered a shoulder injury during a pre-season match last Friday (3) between her team Chicago Sky and the Minnesota Lynx team. The Brazilian is expected to be out of action for four to six weeks.
The Brazilian star was injured after landing badly on his own shoulder. She was present in the preparation match for the season, in which her team lost 92 to 81. In the game, Kamilla Cardoso was on the court for just 13 minutes, and managed to score six points and four rebounds for her team before leaving of action.
The Chicago Sky still has a preseason commitment against the New York Liberty. Afterwards, Cardoso’s team will begin their WNBA campaign against the Dallas Wings, on May 15th. In addition to these games, Brazil’s young promise is expected to miss at least 7 more matches. However, she could miss another six matches if she recovers from the injury within the expected six-week limit.
Rising star
Standing 2.01 meters tall, the 23-year-old Brazilian center comes to the WNBA after winning the NCAA, the biggest university title, with the South Carolina team. During the campaign, in fact, Kamilla Cardoso was voted the competition’s best defender and was crowned as the best player in the tournament final.
