At the end of April, a request from the Corinthians board of directors was made public asking Augusto Melo to provide clarifications about VaideBet’s sponsorship. Romeu Tuma Jr., president of the Deliberative Council, denied the summons request issued, only requesting that the black and white president provide information about the master sponsor and inform other advisors.

In the document to which the My Timon had access, Tuma claims that the “Request for Summons” does not have statutory support. Therefore, it cannot be continued. Also, he disapproved because he understood that “the objective of the document was just to generate media”, highlighting the informality of the conversation between Augusto Melo and Andrés Sanchez when the current president denied that there had been a VaideBet intermediary.

“Summoning the Council to debate whether or not someone lied in an informal meeting with just one version does not seem reasonable to me, especially because 99% of the Council did not testify”, explained Tuma, who also disapproved of the fact that he learned of the request through of the press – the news was published on April 30th, while the document reached his hands on May 2nd, according to the president of the Deliberative Council.

The meeting in question between Andrés Sanchez, Augusto Melo and other members of the opposition took place on April 12th. There, the former and current president spoke both about VaideBet and other issues such as the increase in the number of members at Parque São Jorge. Melo was also advised that Corinthians close an agreement with Grupo Globo for the Libra broadcast rights.

With Romeu Tuma Jr’s request, the president of Corinthians must issue a document with this information, but without necessarily attending the Council to talk to those present, and may be questioned.

The sponsorship with VaideBet has generated controversy, especially after it was revealed in the press that there was an intermediary between the bookmaker and Corinthians. In this agreement, this company, which would be Rede Social Media Design LTDA, will receive an amount of R$25 million over the three years of the agreement. Sérgio Moura, the club’s marketing superintendent, would have recommended the company to the board.
