World champion Nathalie Moellhausen achieved another good result on the international fencing circuit. This Sunday (5), the Brazilian took third place in the Espada Grand Prix in Cali, Colombia. Nathallie won four matches, but lost to an Italian in the semifinals, taking the bronze medal.

Nathalie Moellhausen started her campaign in Cali directly in the main table as she was fifth in the world rankings. Thus, the Brazilian made her debut in the competition against the Ukrainian Anna Maksymenko. In a balanced duel, Nathalie won 15 to 12 to advance to the next round. In the frame of 32, a calmer victory for the world champion. Nathalie Moellhausen beat South Korean Lim Taehee 15-8. In the round of 16, Nathalie beat Swiss Angela Krieger 15-10.
In the quarterfinals, Nathalie opened a six-point lead over Erika Kirpu, from Estonia. But the opponent managed a reaction and tied the game at 10-10. However, the Brazilian stepped up in the final minutes of the match to secure the victory by 15-12. In the semifinal, Nathalie Moellhausen lost to Giulia Rizzi. The Italian opened a good lead at the beginning of the fight and managed the difference until the end, winning 15 to 9.
Currently ranked fifth in the world rankings, Nathalie Moellhausen is already qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games. With this week’s result, she defends the points gained in Cali last year, not losing points in the ranking. The goal is to achieve a good position to avoid difficult clashes in the first rounds of the Olympics.
