The Alpine team demonstrated a slightly more consistent performance in the qualifying session for the Formula 1 Miami GP, with Pierre Gasly taking P12 and Esteban Ocon taking P13 for the starting grid on Sunday.

Bruno Famin, team principal: “It was a very busy day in Miami with the Sprint race followed by the qualifying session for Sunday’s GP. Firstly, in the Sprint, it was the closest we’ve been to points this season, with Pierre in ninth place. As a team, we will investigate the pit lane incident at Sprint to prevent it from happening again, as the penalty compromised Esteban’s race. The qualifying session was not simple, with challenges in tire behavior. Once again, we draw positive conclusions from the result and the fact that the updates we brought worked as expected. We have put ourselves in a position to fight hard for points in tomorrow’s race,” he concluded.

Ocon: “I would say that today were not the easiest days for us. We had a misunderstanding at the start of the Sprint in the pit lane, a big and expensive mistake, and the team and I will work hard to improve this kind of thing. After that, it was a busy race, but well out of the points race due to the penalty. In the qualifying session, we knew it would be difficult and we managed to progress again in Q2, but we were unable to reach Q3. The grid is very close, so we have to keep working on the things that will benefit us next time. The aim is to fight and advance in the race and we will do everything we can tomorrow, getting as much out of the car as possible, and hopefully within the points,” he added.

Gasly: “There are a lot of positives and lessons to be learned as a team today. The upgrades we have on the car are clearly working to our expectations. In the Sprint we finished ninth, the closest we’ve been to points all season. Then, in the qualifying session, we finished just a tenth away from reaching Q3. We know where we are falling short and we have to try to improve these areas as the gaps in and around the top ten are very small. I had a really good feeling on my lap in Q1, but then I felt different in Q2, so there are things to analyze and understand better. It seems like progress and I’m aiming for the first points of the year in tomorrow’s race”, concluded the French driver.
