New Cruzeiro goalkeeper Gabriel Grando, 24 years old, was very active on social media in his teens. During the period in which he played in Grêmio’s youth categories, the player made several loving and spicy publications on his official Twitter account, currently called “X”. This story brought laughter from journalists and the athlete himself this Friday (3), at Toca da Raposa II.

Grando explained the old posts on his social network in his first press conference at Cruzeiro.

“This is a part of my life that is behind me. I was 16 years old, I was a kid, I lived in the dorm. There was me and four, five other kids in the room. We had nothing to do, we trained in the morning, had free afternoons and evenings. We listened to a lot of music. Several parts of these tweets that I had are of songs. A part (of life) that has passed, thank God”, he said.

Posts made by Grando have become memes in recent years. As the player left Grêmio to settle with Cruzeiro, the publications resurfaced and became a source of ridicule on the internet.

Among Gabriel Grando’s publications, some attracted more attention. Like, for example, “A crazy whirl in search of the bad guys”; “He tried to teach me how to pick up a woman, so I, Drauzio Vraaau Nelas” and “Let’s make a little noise on the neighbor’s wall. Taco, delicious taco. Taco, taco in the dark.”

Gabriel Grando explained why he didn’t delete funny messages from his social network. “This account is active because I lost the password, I tried to recover it anyway, but I couldn’t. The part that I played at being a model is obvious, it’s for beauty (laughs)”, he concluded.

Presented at Toca II

In his first interview with Cruzeiro this Friday (3), Gabriel Grando commented on the dispute for position and stated that he was prepared to replace Rafael Cabral. At a press conference at Toca da Raposa II, in Belo Horizonte, the goalkeeper, aged 24 and 1.92m, praised his “competitors”, but said he will wait for his first opportunity.

“I am very prepared. I know the expectations, great goalkeepers have already worn this shirt. But I trust my work and I’m prepared for all the opportunities that come my way. The goalkeeper issue is very complicated, everyone wants to play. But we know that he only plays one and, generally, it takes time before he gets the opportunity”, he pondered.

According to Gabriel Grando, regardless of who coach Fernando Seabra chooses, Cruzeiro is well served with goalkeepers.

“I always remember that no one prepares in two or three days. You have to keep working, because when the opportunity comes, you have to be prepared. Anderson is playing, there’s Léo [Aragão], who I met recently, but is a great goalkeeper. Otávio, I ended up seeing Copinha at the beginning of the year, he did very well. There are a lot of people wanting this opportunity,” he added.

Patience to get the first chance

“Each goalkeeper has his own story and it wasn’t built overnight. She needed time. We have to arrive, seize the opportunities and prove every day that you have the opportunity to wear this shirt and live up to the challenge. It’s constant, you have to evolve every day and you can’t stop.

Grando has a contract until the end of the year

Loaned by Grêmio in an exchange with Rafael Cabral, with an option to purchase, Grando signed a contract until the end of the year with Cruzeiro. Revealed by Tricolor Gaúcho, the goalkeeper defended the team in 88 games. This year, he was one of Argentine Agustín Marchesín’s reserves.

Last Sunday (28), Gabriel was on the Cruzeiro bench for the first time. As Anderson was a starter, the goalkeeper was an option in the match against Vitória, at Mineirão, in Belo Horizonte, in the 4th round of Series A of the Brazilian Championship.
