Madrid (Spain) – The top two in the rankings will face each other this Saturday, starting at 1:30 pm (Brasília time), in the final of the WTA 1000 in Madrid. For the second year in a row, the decision of the clay court tournament in the Spanish capital will be between Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka. The game will be broadcast on ESPN It is Star+.

Swiatek leads the history of clashes 6-3 and won the most recent duel in the WTA Finals semi. But Sabalenka prevailed in last year’s decision in Madrid. It was the Belarusian’s only victory over the Pole on clay in four games.

The finalists reach the decision with a considerable difference in time on the court throughout the tournament. Swiatek was on the court for 7h19 and gave up just one set, to Bia Haddad Maia in the quarterfinals. Sabalenka won four of her five matches in the tournament in three sets, including two comebacks, against Danielle Collins in the round of 16 and Elena Rybakina in the semi-final.

Sabalenka tries the tri, Swiatek wants the third WTA 1000 of the year

Two-time champion in Madrid, Sabalenka is 25 years old and is competing in her 27th final on the circuit and her third of the season, after the title at the Australian Open and runner-up in Brisbane. In level 1000 events, she has five titles and one runner-up. Swiatek, 22 years old, has already accumulated 19 titles in his career and has only four runners-up. The Pole has already won eight WTA 1000 tournaments, two of them this year in Doha and Indian Wells, and has competed in two other finals. The Madrid tournament is the only major clay event that she has never won, with a third title at Roland Garros and two titles in Rome and Stuttgart.

And if Swiatek is champion, she will open more than 3,000 points ahead of second place in the rankings.
