Madrid (Spain) – Owner of 20 titles on the circuit, one of them being a Grand Slam, Russian Daniil Medvedev is not satisfied with what he has already achieved. Quadrifinalist in Madrid, he now has quarterfinals in all current Masters 1000, but hopes to make even bigger leaps on the circuit.

“Reaching the quarterfinals of all the Masters 1000 shows that I’m having a great career, but I want more,” said the Russian, who has already won Cincinnati (2019), Shanghai (2019), Paris (2020), Toronto, (2021 ), Miami and Rome (2023), now seeking to win for the first time in the Spanish capital.

The title in Rome last year is for now his only one on clay. To continue dreaming of the cup at Caixa Mágica, he will have to overcome home tennis player Rafael Nadal or Czech Jiri Lehecka in the quarterfinals. Medvedev has just one win in six games against Nadal and beat Lehecka the only time they met.

Regarding the Tuesday’s victory for Kazakh Alexander Bublik, he was satisfied with what he did. “I think I showed a good level. Some good points, some good serves and some bad serves. So it was a bit of ups and downs, but I’m happy that I managed to stay more consistent and win in the end”, analyzed the Russian.

“It was a difficult match. Lots of drop shots and I ended up getting really tired running into them. That’s when you lose concentration and start playing a little worse. That’s what happened, but after the match he told me he was also dead. Good for me, at least I wasn’t the only one,” he concluded.
