Max Verstappen may be about to change teams in Formula 1. According to several rumors published by several international press outlets, Mercedes is preparing an astronomical offer to take the Dutchman away from Red Bull Racing.

The salary offered by Toto Wolff and his team would reach €150 million (around R$820 million) per year, including bonuses. Negotiations, if confirmed, could begin at the Miami GP, this coming weekend.

Mercedes’ move comes at a time of internal turmoil at Red Bull. The recent accusations against team principal Christian Horner, coupled with an apparent power struggle and the possible departure of renowned designer Adrian Newey, have created a climate of uncertainty within the Milton Keynes team.

It is worth remembering that Verstappen has a contract with Red Bull until the end of 2028. However, it is believed that there is a release clause if the team’s consultant, Helmut Marko, also decides to leave.

Given this scenario, Mercedes would be willing to include Marko in a ‘package’ to attract Verstappen. The Dutchman’s dissatisfaction with Red Bull’s ability to maintain dominance in the category from 2026 onwards would be another factor explored by the Germans.
