What happened

Veiga published an outburst on social media after the epic comeback against Independiente del Valle: “Recognizing moments of difficulty is what makes us always seek to evolve and grow. I know my current situation and I will continue dedicating myself to improving. I will never run away from my responsibilities and I will never hide from them.”

Abel didn’t like it, and the board’s guidance to the players is that they don’t base themselves on the opinions of fans on social media. Veiga is not the first Palmeiras athlete to suffer virtual attacks. Weverton, Rony and Breno Lopes were the most recent cases.

Abel went on to say that Breno asked to leave the club because he didn’t receive affection from “a minority of fansthat I don’t even know if they are fans”.

Veiga is going through a bad time, but he will only leave the team if he has an injury. Abel Ferreira considers Veiga one of the leaders of this Palmeiras squad, and wants to recover his good football instead of removing him from the starting team. Veiga has gone six games without scoring and five without providing any assists.

In 2024, Veiga has 19 games, 7 goals and 4 assists. He is Alviverde’s second top scorer this season, just behind striker Flaco López with 11 goals.
