In the first event after UFC 300, Las Vegas once again hosted the most famous Octagon in the world in an event that featured strong Brazilian participation and a representative of the country in the main fight, Matheus Nicolau.
The flyweight faced American Alex Perez in the main event, in an important duel in the category. Unable to overcome his rival’s strategy, Matheus found himself dominated by him and ended up being knocked out in the second round of the duel.
The fight
The start of the UFC Vegas 91 main fight was quite lukewarm and without much action. But Perez managed to arrive with a combination, in one of the first moments of engagement in the exchange. Nicolau responded when he responded to his rival’s kick with a series of hooks, which caused the American to be somewhat frightened.
Despite these moves, the first part of the fight saw little action. In the second, an exchange of blows gave fans hope at the beginning of this one, and soon both fighters, especially Perez, began to find the blows. The American started to get excited as soon as some of his advances started to bother the Brazilian and so the fight began to head towards its end.
First, Perez dodged a ‘hook’ and threw Matheus off balance with one of his own. With the Brazilian unable to find an adequate response, the American went forward and a well-aimed right hook ended up knocking Nicolau out. Thus, Perez won again in the UFC after three defeats and Nicolau lost his second fight in a row

The Brazilian night
Six other representatives from Brazil fought at UFC Vegas 91. New to the organization, Jhonata Diniz faced Austen Lane and the kickboxing standout didn’t take long to show what she came for in Ultimate. In a dominant performance, the São Paulo native managed to contain the American’s takedown attempts and managed to land good combinations, especially in the second round. One of them accurately caught Lane and knocked him out.
Ketlen Souza faced Marnic Mann to recover from the defeat in his Ultimate debut. The Amazon native controlled the fight from start to finish, especially on the feet. Mann always looked for the fight on the ground, even getting the chance to try for a submission in the third round. But he couldn’t beat the good performance inside the octagon of ‘Esquentadinha’, which he finally managed to win in the UFC.

There was also a duel between Brazilians, between Karine Killer and Ariane Lipski. The two, former teammates, had a fierce fight and Karine soon used the ground fight and took down the ‘Queen of Violence’ and created situations to dominate her rival and even try to submit her with a guillotine choke in the first round. Ariane managed to defend herself and showed some effectiveness in her favorite game, standing fighting, but it was insufficient to stop Karine, now undefeated in four fights in Ultimate,
Veteran Rani Yahya sought rehabilitation against Victor Henry. A specialist in ground fighting, Yayha managed to take the duel down a few times, but was unable to prevail. Henry was better at striking, although the Brazilian tried to balance the fight in this regard, especially at the beginning. As the fight went on, the Brazilian ended up getting tired and, in the third round, he received a series of punches that resulted in the fight being stopped and his rival winning.
After debuting with a defeat in the UFC, Caio Machado faced Don’Tale Mayes at this Saturday’s event. The Brazilian could not withstand the pressure from the American, who trains with Jon Jones, and unsuccessfully sought to balance the fight, being defeated once again.
